Understanding Your Symptoms

Many patients come to us feeling dismissed by traditional healthcare or told their symptoms are just part of aging. Fatigue that doesn’t improve with rest, weight gain despite diet and exercise, mood changes that seem out of character, sleep disruption, and declining libido are not things you simply have to accept. These symptoms often point to hormonal imbalances that can be identified through comprehensive testing and addressed with personalized treatment approaches. Our educational resources help you recognize patterns in your symptoms and understand the underlying biology that may be contributing to how you feel.

Dr. Khym B. Zarzuela, D.O., and our team of experienced Nurse Practitioners and Physician’s Assitants believe in treating the whole patient, not just isolated symptoms. He believes lab work alone provides only a one-dimensional picture, which is why we take time to listen and understand each patient’s story before recommending treatment. We provide information that helps you advocate for yourself and make informed decisions about your health journey across our Austin and San Antonio locations.

The Importance of Comprehensive Testing

Effective hormone therapy begins with thorough testing that goes beyond basic panels. Our educational resources explain why we test multiple hormones, how timing affects results, and what optimal ranges look like versus just normal ranges. You’ll learn about our testing, blood work, and other diagnostic tools we use to create your baseline and monitor your progress. Understanding your lab results empowers you to be an active participant in your treatment. We believe patients should understand not just what we’re testing for, but why each marker matters and how it relates to your symptoms. This knowledge helps you track improvements and recognize when adjustments might be needed. Many patients find that learning about their hormone levels and what influences them helps them make lifestyle choices that support their treatment goals.

He has practiced family and urgent care medicine in the Central and South Texas area since 1994, and in late 2010 he began focusing on the benefits of hormonal replacement and natural supplements for his patients. He completed his residency in Family Medicine and finished medical school at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth.

Our nurse practitioners, Sidnee Mitchell, FNP-C, and Michelle Gray, N.P., work closely with patients throughout treatment, providing ongoing education and support at our San Antonio and Austin offices.
